What is a dental bridge?
A bridge is a custom-made replacement tooth or teeth that is held in place by healthy teeth, dental crowns or dental implants on both sides of the gap. A dental bridge can fill the space of one or more than one lost tooth. If you have missing teeth, your dentist can close or bridge the gap in your smile with a dental bridge. The bridge helps to restore your bite and keep the natural shape of your face.
How many types of dental bridges are there?
There are four types of dental bridges:
- Traditional Bridge – Traditional bridge consists of an artificial tooth or teeth being placed by dental crowns that have been cemented onto each of the adjacent natural teeth. Traditional bridge is the most popular type of dental bridges. It is mainly used when you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap.
- Cantilever Bridge – A cantilever bridge consists of an artificial tooth being placed by dental crown that has been cemented to only one tooth.
- Maryland Bridge – Maryland dental bridges use two natural teeth for placing the artificial teeth, one on each side of the gap. While a traditional bridge uses dental crowns on the teeth, a Maryland bridge uses a metal framework.
- Implant-supported Bridge – As the name suggests, Implant-supported bridges use dental implants as opposed to crowns or frameworks. It is used to fill a gap of more than two or three teeth and is perhaps the most costly one.

What affects the cost of a dental bridge?
There are many variables that can affect the price of the dental bridge, this might include:
- The gap between the teeth
- The materials of the resin
- The difficulty of the placement
- Any additional treatments required for other dental issues
- The location of the teeth
- The type of bridge that you select
How many teeth can be replaced using a bridge?
Mostly it is used to replace one tooth but no more than 2 teeth can be replaced using this method. This is because the dental bridge relies on the support of the two healthy adjacent teeth.
Why do I require teeth bridging?
A dental bridge can help you; restore your smile, have the ability to properly chew, and restore your speaking and pronunciation ability. It also helps with maintaining the shape of your face.
